I had been looking for Dusky Grouse in Colorado and Arizona for many years. On my last trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, I looked again and was about to give up. One day, on 7/29/12, while my buddy Rey and I were driving through the Park near the Horseshoe Park Overlook, a family of Dusky Grouse crossed the road in front of my car, so we quickly pulled over as soon as I could and followed them into the woods. Once there, they allowed close approaches. It was a sweet moment! I took this photo with a Canon EOS 60D Camera and a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS lens.
