I photographed this, one of the rarest birds in New Zealand, during a tour to Tiritiri Matangi open sanctuary in Huraki Gulf (Auckland Bay), New Zealand on January 16, 2014.

The Takahe is the largest of all rails and also the largest of all flightless birds to survive in New Zealand. I used a Canon 7D and a Canon 100-400 mm lens to capture this amazing creature.
