Most bird guides describe the Scaly-breasted hummingbird as rather dull & plain. I took this image around noon in the Darien Region of Panama. Here was this dull bird, sitting on a wind chime, who simply jumped out at me. All the beautiful features were suddenly highlighted. The “scales” pop out. The base of the lower mandible shows a distinctive pink. A touch of aqua on the fore crown.
