In Taiwan’s water caltrop ponds, if lucky one can see the Pheasant-tailed Jacana elegantly walking on floating leaves or flying over water. Behind its neck, the golden breeding plumage is as eye-catching as its big claws and long tail. Another special feature is that the males hatch the eggs and take care of the broods. This bird is categorized as “rare and precious” in our Wildlife Conservation Act. The photo was taken last summer at a conservation area in southern Taiwan.
