This heavily built goose is the largest in the region. It looks similar to the greater white-fronted goose and lesser white-fronted goose. It has brownish grey body, pale underparts, and darker upperparts with square tipped feathers. Some adults may show a silver of white around their bill. This bird is found in large flocks near cultivated fields, grasslands and wetlands. The contrast between its paler covert and dark flight feathers is visible when in flight. It has a large head and pink bill that is almost triangular. Greylag goose is a winter visitor to the Indian subcontinent. It feeds on roots, tubers, sprouts and sterns, it has a sharp honking call.
