Grey Crowned-Crane

There is a wide range of decoration of feathering throughout the bird kingdom, but the stiff, thin straw-colored feathers on the head of the crowned cranes certainly are among the odder decorations I have encountered. Between the wonderfuly colors and contrast in the face, with the black, white and red with the blue eye and yellow crown, it might be easy to overlook the lovely swirl of of soft grey feathers at the base of the neck and chest, which seem to be designed in a Paris fashion house. This tall beautiful crane was one of many seen and photographed in Ngorongoro Crate in Tanzania in January 2019.
