Twenty years ago Great Knot flocks were a common sight in Taiwan’s wetlands in migration seasons, but not anymore today. This species is now categorized as Endangered in IUCN’s Red List. To help improve the situation, some Taiwanese fish farms cooperate with conservationists, leaving shallow water in the fish ponds after their annual harvest to form the “migratory birds’ hotels”. Preliminary successful results have been observed. These two Great Knots are seen in a lotus field in New Taipei City.
