The simultaneous presence of these two birds is interesting. The Gray-headed Woodpecker at the top lives in Taiwan’s high mountain forests, and is rare to see. The Taiwan Barbet at the bottom is an endemic species living in low elevation areas, very common in both urban and rural regions. Many Taiwanese thought the Taiwan Barbet is a woodpecker, because it does peck trees to make nests. This photo is taken at the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area in Tai-Chung County.
