It is also known as a Chinese pheasant or rainbow pheasant. It is mainly found in the forest area of western china. It is also found in united kingdom, Canada,, Usa, Germany and Belgium.
This bird has a golden crest, the eyes are white with a black spot in the center of the eye ball, just below the crest is a white patch with black stripes, the breast in red in color which extends right upto the throat followed by a black patch which extends right upto the eyeball. The back has a combination of blue wings followed by green on top and yellow extended to the tip of the tail. The tail is the added feature with yellow color followed by black spots. The tail is very long like a train.
The male looks more colorful then the female. The female has a dull brown color, but it has a long tail like the male.
Both male and female have yellow legs and yellow bill. They feed on grain leaves and invertibrates, but they roast on trees at nights. During winter flocks tend to forage close to human settlements at the edge of the forest.
Golden pheasants lay 8 to 12 eggs at a time and then incubate them for 22- 23 days. They tend to eat berries, grubs, seeds and other vegetation.
