A Hooded Merganser duckling napping with its foster Wood Duck mama and sibling. I believe this to be a result of nest dumping. The behaviors of the Merganser imply that it has imprinted on the Wood Duck and the mother Wood Duck appears to have fully accepted the Merganser. Photographed from a blind at Brick Pond Wetland Preserve in Owego, NY. June 6, 2015. Canon 7D Mk II using a 500mm IS II lens and 1.4x teleconverter on a tripod.
