One of the most strikingly handsome birds that is also one of the most difficult birds to see in the wild.
The reason is they are creatures of the upper canopy of mature deciduous forests and mixed deciduous-coniferous forests.
I was able to find this bird by birding along a forest edge of a road that climbs a ridgeline to Low Gap in Habersham County, Georgia. On stretches of steep sides, when looking into the valley, you are looking into the upper canopy of the trees on the downhill side.
