Red-tailed Hawk

You can always tell when a hawk is relaxed, and not wary. If you look closely you will notice the bird’s left leg is tucked up in a shadow area in the center of the chest/belly area. A little yellow coloring is visible in the shadow. Raptors do this when they don’t feel threatened, and after they have just finished a meal. In this case this bird has done just that. If you look at the bird’s perch leg, you’ll see some blood on the toe just inside of the longest toe.
