Female mountain bluebirds are the most drab of the three species of bluebirds. As shown in this image, the female mountain bluebird is generally a dull gray-brown with a bit of blue on the edges of the wings. Bluebirds feed primarily on insects. In Yellowstone National Park they frequently perch on roadside signs or posts. They swoop from there into the meadows to catch insects.
