This picture was taken recently by Steve Large at the Nanaimo River Estuary on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Mountain bluebirds only pass through here for about a week during their migrations to the breeding area in the interior of B.C. and farther north. This bird is one of two males that were feeding up before continuing their trip.

Stats: Canon EOS-1D Mark 4 with 600mm IS2 and 1.4X. Taken at 1/800sec ISO800, F/8
