Location: Elkhorn Slough near Moss Landing, California
Marbled godwits are long-legged shorebirds with a barred pattern. In breeding plumage (not present on this photo), the barred pattern extends to the chest. As shown in this photo, their bills are long, bicolor, and slightly upturned. The shape of the bill distinguishes them from long-billed curlews and whimbrels, both of which have down-turned bills.
