While visiting the Parker River NWR on Plum Island in early July, I came across some Killdeer chicks near the edge of the Salt Pans. This particular chick was demonstrating its effectiveness at gathering nourishment on its own. I photographed this bird using a Canon 7D, a 300mm lens, and a 1.4x tele-extender hand-held.
