On a recent visit to Cape Ann, I confirmed that Harlequin ducks have indeed returned for yet another winter. Several were seen making runs to and from various points of the Cape. In this particular instance, I was tracking one as it flew directly toward me at high speed before it banked, slowed itself a bit giving me the opportunity to capture a few images. I photographed this bird at Andrews Point using a tripod-mounted Canon 7D, equipped with a 300 mm f/2.8 lens and a 1.4x tele-extender, under partly cloudy skies.
