Wings forward, tail back: Drake Canvasback flapping off excess water. Today I was able to leave work early to enjoy the beautiful, albeit cold, sunshine. I drove up to Cayuga Lake and after driving to multiple locations I finally found a spot on a snowy beach with this very accommodating Canvasback. I watched and photographed for over an hour as he dove for food, preened and, finally, gave me this wing flap. Photographed at Robert H. Treman State Park. March 2015. Canon 7D Mk II using a 500mm IS II lens and 1.4x teleconverter on a tripod.
