A Black Scoter rides the waves at Cape Ann, MA. This species of large sea duck can be a challenge to photograph due to its uniform black color that can create issues for auto-focus systems. I was fortunate to capture a few frames in which I was able to lock on to this bird between waves. I photographed this bird at Andrews Point, Rockport, MA using a Canon EOS 7D, a 300 mm F/2.8 L IS lens, and a 1.4x tele-extender under partly sunny skies.
