One of the birds I was excited to see in Florida was the Black-bellied Plover nearing breeding plumage. During breeding season, the Black-bellied Plover will be completely black from throat to upper belly. An adult non-breeding Black-bellied Plover will be mostly white in the throat and upper belly. These Plovers spend their winters along the western and eastern coastlines of North and South America and breed in the arctic. Photographed on Sanibel Island, FL in late April 2014.
