Location: Fraser River Valley, Near Vancouver, British Columbia
This image shows two bald eagles – an adult and a 4-year-old bird. Juvenile bald eagles lack the distinctive white head and tail seen on adults. In their first year, juvenile birds are predominantly brown and are sometimes mistaken for golden eagles. By the fourth year, juvenile birds have progressed from being mottled brown and white to resembling adult birds with the exception of some residual brown feathers in the head, as appear in the bird with its head down in this image.
