An ABA Code 5 Red-legged Thrush was reported on April 25th 2019 at Lantana Nature Preserve in Ocean Ridge, Florida. This was only the Second Sighting ever on record of this bird in the US!! I was fortunate to be nearby when the Alert went out and was there in minutes and got some nice shots of the bird before the throngs of birders arrived to try and see it. It’s typically a bird of the Caribbean Islands and is not know to be migratory, which makes the sighting even more exciting. Perhaps it got lost in the strong east winds out of the Caribbean and ended up here in South Florida. There was also a Code 4 Bahama Mockingbird in the same preserve.
