Northern Flickers

Each spring, the Red-bellied Woodpeckers make nest holes in a few trees in the backyard. That’s when the Northern Flickers make their move for possible nesting opportunities. This year, after a couple of weeks of courtship behavior, the Northern Flickers chose a nest hole. I was skeptical, due to many failed attempts in previous years. I watched from afar with hopes of success. Sure enough, the nest produced two Northern Flicker babies. This photo was taken the day before the two birds left the nest.
