This photo of a Rufous Hummingbird was taken by Helena Reynolds. It ran in “Your View” in our August 2014 issue.
“Your View” is a popular four- to six-page section that appears in every issue of BirdWatching. We love it because it’s where we get to showcase readers’ photos and print their stories about encounters with birds.
Helena took her photo in her yard in Ventress, Louisiana, north of Baton Rouge, in April. She tells us she hosts Rufous Hummingbirds each winter. “When all their little throat feathers come in, I know that they will leave in the next day or so,” she says. This bird was gone the day after she took the photo. She used a Canon 5D Mark II and a 500mm lens.
