David Sibley included a dozen species from the family Hirundinidae (swallows and martins) in the second edition of The Sibley Guide to Birds. To date, visitors to our photo galleries have posted pictures of 8 of the 12, including the photos below.
This Purple Martin, photographed by snooked, was hunting in Cypress Park, Coral Springs, Florida.
So what are the four swallow species that aren’t represented yet in our galleries? They’re Brown-chested and Common House Martin, and Mangrove, and Bahama Swallows. If you have a picture, please share it!
Our selections from the second half of April 2022 include a portrait of a Cedar Waxwing, an adult King Penguin feeding its young, and a late-April encounter with Rough-legged Hawks in northern Minnesota.
