Photos of the day: First half of November 2020

Every day on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter, we share a photo of the day — a superb image from more than 20,000 pictures in our Reader Galleries. The shots we selected in the first half of November 2020 included an American Golden-Plover eating a worm, a great image of a Purple Gallinule, Common Redpolls feeding from a photographer’s hand, and more!

Common Redpolls by Isabelle Marozzo

Common Redpolls by Isabelle Marozzo

While hand-feeding birds requires patience and great care for the birds’ well-being, the rewards can be moments like this. Isabelle Marozzo photographed these Common Redpolls eating out of her hand. “It took months to develop trust with these redpolls,” she writes. “It felt amazing to have them feeding from my hand.” She shared the photo in our Backyard Gallery.
