Five photos of subtle Say’s Phoebe

Say's Phoebe in Miller County, Georgia.

Kenn Kaufman’s regular column “ID Tips” is a highlight of every issue of BirdWatching. In our October 2016 issue, on newsstands now, he describes beautiful, subtle Say’s Phoebe.

With its pale earth tones and soft, plaintive voice, Kenn writes, the species seems designed for open, arid land. It nests from central Mexico to northern Alaska, but that doesn’t stop it from wandering eastward, as the bird above clearly did. Photographer gman79 spotted it in Miller County, Georgia, in December 2014.
