Dazzling photos of five orioles

Contributing editor David Sibley shows 10 species of oriole in his field guide. Two, Black-vented and Streak-backed, are very rare visitors from Mexico. Two more, Altamira and Audubon’s, are highly sought South Texas specialties. And one, Spot-breasted, can be found only in suburban neighborhoods of southeastern Florida. The other five are pictured below.

Like Scott's Oriole, Hooded is a bird of the Southwest. vmiller took this photo.

Whether orioles’ nest-weaving ability is instinctive or learned.

Berries from introduced shrubs turn orioles red, cardinals redder.

Attention, oriole photographers!
