Contributing editor David Sibley shows 10 species of oriole in his field guide. Two, Black-vented and Streak-backed, are very rare visitors from Mexico. Two more, Altamira and Audubon’s, are highly sought South Texas specialties. And one, Spot-breasted, can be found only in suburban neighborhoods of southeastern Florida. The other five are pictured below.
Photographer Laure Wilson Neish says this gorgeous male Bullock's Oriole was visiting a hummingbird feeder in her yard in Penticton, British Columbia, at the northern edge of the bird's range.
Attention, oriole photographers!
If you have a photo of Altamira or Audubon’s Oriole from Texas, or of Florida’s Spot-breasted Oriole, we’d love to see it. Please share it in our galleries!
