Contributing editor David Sibley shows 10 species of oriole in his field guide. Two, Black-vented and Streak-backed, are very rare visitors from Mexico. Two more, Altamira and Audubon’s, are highly sought South Texas specialties. And one, Spot-breasted, can be found only in suburban neighborhoods of southeastern Florida. The other five are pictured below.
This handsome male Scott’s Oriole, a bird of the Southwest, was at Bob’s Gap in Valyermo, California. Alexander Viduetsky photographed it on April 27, 2014.
Attention, oriole photographers!
If you have a photo of Altamira or Audubon’s Oriole from Texas, or of Florida’s Spot-breasted Oriole, we’d love to see it. Please share it in our galleries!
