Our 2020 Color of Birds contest attracted loads of great images. We’re happy to present this slideshow of honorable mention photos, featuring hummingbirds, toucans, and many more birds. Enjoy!
“The photo was taken on March 25, 2017, at Gulf State Pier in Gulf Shores, Alabama,” writes Laura Vines. “This is a fishing pier, and pelicans, herons, and other waterbirds hang out on and near the pier because of the fishing activity. This is one of the fairly rare blue-eyed pelicans that come around, and I was struck by the richness of his coloring and his striking eyes!”
Equipment and settings: Canon Rebel T2i, using a 55-250mm zoom lens. ISO 200, f/9, 1/325 speed.
Many thanks to our panel of guest judges: bird photographer Mia McPherson, photo editor and photographer Ernie Mastroianni, and Outdoor Photographer Editor Wes Pitts.Originally Published
