2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest honorable mentions

Earlier this year, we invited photographers to submit their best work for consideration in the 2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest. More than 1,230 photos poured in, from hundreds of contestants. Over the last few weeks, the judges combed through the entries, and now, we are ready to announce the finalists and the honorable mention images. Next week, we’ll reveal the three winners.

The following slideshow features the 17 honorable mention photos, including images of Anna’s Hummingbird, Great Gray and Great Horned Owls, young Roseate Spoonbills, a Sunbittern in Brazil, and more. Please enjoy!

Photographer: Stuart Pechek

Location and date: Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, August 12, 2018.

Description: While on photo safari in Serengeti National Park, every evening when we arrived back at our tent camp, I would rush down this trail on the camp's edge. And sure enough, this Marabou Stork was always perched on this dead tree, as if on cue, and right at sunset.
