2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest honorable mentions

Earlier this year, we invited photographers to submit their best work for consideration in the 2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest. More than 1,230 photos poured in, from hundreds of contestants. Over the last few weeks, the judges combed through the entries, and now, we are ready to announce the finalists and the honorable mention images. Next week, we’ll reveal the three winners.

The following slideshow features the 17 honorable mention photos, including images of Anna’s Hummingbird, Great Gray and Great Horned Owls, young Roseate Spoonbills, a Sunbittern in Brazil, and more. Please enjoy!

Photographer: Dennis Moncla

Location and date: Beaumont, Texas, Cattail Marsh, March 15, 2019.

Description: I came across this Great Blue Heron on a hazy day at the Cattail Marsh in Beaumont, Texas. I had gone to the marsh early to see if any migratory birds had come in and to see the state of the marsh from the winter. I brought my camera just in case. The haze gives a great feel and makes the water a milky white.

Gear: Sony ILCE-7M3.
