Earlier this year, we invited photographers to submit their best work for consideration in the 2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest. More than 1,230 photos poured in, from hundreds of contestants. Over the last few weeks, the judges combed through the entries, and now, we are ready to announce the finalists and the honorable mention images. Next week, we’ll reveal the three winners.
The following slideshow features the 17 honorable mention photos, including images of Anna’s Hummingbird, Great Gray and Great Horned Owls, young Roseate Spoonbills, a Sunbittern in Brazil, and more. Please enjoy!
Photographer: Charles Murphy
Location and date: Tierra Verde, Florida, April 22, 2019.
Description: While wandering among the little islands off Tierra Verde, Florida, my captain and I came across a tiny island that was just covered with all kinds of bird nests: herons, egrets, and at the very top of the island, this Anhinga nest. Since it was at the top of the island and the light was good, I was lucky enough to get this uncluttered view of a mom and the two chicks that were pestering her for breakfast.
Gear: Canon EOS-1D X Mark II.
