2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest honorable mentions

Earlier this year, we invited photographers to submit their best work for consideration in the 2020 BirdWatching Photography Awards Contest. More than 1,230 photos poured in, from hundreds of contestants. Over the last few weeks, the judges combed through the entries, and now, we are ready to announce the finalists and the honorable mention images. Next week, we’ll reveal the three winners.

The following slideshow features the 17 honorable mention photos, including images of Anna’s Hummingbird, Great Gray and Great Horned Owls, young Roseate Spoonbills, a Sunbittern in Brazil, and more. Please enjoy!

Location and date: Sax-Zim Bog, Eveleth, Minnesota, December 28, 2015.

Description: After a long winter drive from Columbus, Ohio, to the Sax-Zim Bog in Northern Minnesota, the sight of this target bird was absolutely stunning. It was well worth the three days in brutal cold, snowy conditions and the arduous drive up and back.
