"While exploring a remote lagoon off the Napo River in the Amazon watershed of Ecuador by canoe, I spotted these large, prehistoric looking birds sitting on a lower tree branch with soft front lighting on a cloudy day," writes Gordon Norman of Newport Beach, California. "They continued to stare at me long enough for me to grab this 'twin' shot.

"This location is the site of the Sani Lodge, a resort operated by the indigenous Sani Isla Kichwa community and utilized by Amazon wildlife photography workshops."

Equipment and settings: Sony A9 camera with Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens + 1.4X Sony teleconverter, handheld in moving canoe. 1/500, f/4, ISO 800.

Many thanks to our panel of guest judges: our Founding Editor and “Amazing Birds” columnist Eldon Greij; author, radio host, and Contributing Editor Laura Erickson; and Outdoor Photographer Editor Wes Pitts.
