Our 2020 Bird Portrait contest attracted hundreds of fantastic images. We’re happy to present this slideshow of 12 honorable mention photos, featuring Bald Eagle, Snowy, Great, and Reddish Egrets, and Northern Hawk Owl. Enjoy!
"The Bald Eagles of Kachemak Bay, Alaska have a long, rough winter," says Stan Bysshe. "While photographing the birds on a sand spit, a sudden winter snow squall forced several birds to perch on piles of driftwood as they waited out the storm. The wet snow coated the birds, and they were in no mood to fly off, allowing for portrait shots. For me this headshot captured the resolute nature of these incredible birds."
