"Green Cay Nature Center is a well known wetlands area in Boynton Beach, Florida," says Stan Bysshe. "Because of the many people that use the boardwalks everyday, birds are quite approachable. This adult Double-crested Cormorant in full breeding color was not at all concerned about the humans in its territory. Perched on a boardwalk railing, it was showing off to the cormorants below in the marsh grass. Getting close for a headshot was not a problem."

Equipment and settings: Nikon D5, Nikon 500mm f4 lens, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley gimbal head. 1/640, f4.0, ISO 450.

Many thanks to our panel of guest judges: our Founding Editor and “Amazing Birds” columnist Eldon Greij; author, radio host, and Contributing Editor Laura Erickson; and Outdoor Photographer Editor Wes Pitts.
