We received more than 1,000 submissions to our 2019 Bird Portrait Contest, and now, after combing through the entries, we’re excited to announce the results.
The following slideshow displays our 15 honorable mention images, including photos of Brown Pelican, Anna’s Hummingbird, and Green Jay, plus three great shots of Anhinga. Enjoy!

Description: We used to have a cabin near Askov, Minnesota. Very peaceful setting in the woods. Lots of wildlife visitors! Every morning was spent watching the birds in the backyard while enjoying our morning coffee. In the spring we were fortunate to have Ruffed Grouse and Wild Turkeys roam through. The turkeys were skittish but curious! I would hang camo netting in the window if I knew they were coming. Any movement and they were gone!
My photographer friends would ask if that was a "coffee cup" shot! Yep! And I enjoyed every sip of it!
Gear and settings: Nikon D7000; Sigma 300mm; 1/640sec. F7.1 iso 800 manuel exp. spot metering
