Drinking with Crocodiles

Crocodiles do well at Ranganathittu because they are surrounded by a bird colony with plenty of young and adult birds to feed on. This causes problems for the pelicans since if they land on the water they get caught by the crocs. Their solution is to fly down low and scoop up water into their bill resulting in a dramatic backward head flip. This is particularly spectacular to watch at first light just as the sun is rising.
