Sandhill Crane

The Sandhill Crane is ever present here in south Florida. They are quite comfortable around people, Dunkin Donuts (they don't like the drive thru) and even the post office, which is where I shot this. Our local PO sits on a small plot of land that slopes downward, exposing the wetlands beneath it. Many bird species, such as the Sandhill Cranes, will wade among the tall grasses looking for a quick bite to eat and enjoy a little drink. I was only about 20 feet away from this handsome fellow, who was soaking up the hot, noon sun.
