I was at the kitchen sink when I looked out the window and saw this Cooper’s Hawk, looking for all the world like he owned the place . . . and, of course, my camera was all the way on the other side of the house. I tiptoed off to get it and the bird was still sitting on top of the umbrella when I got back to the window – I framed the shot and, just as I was depressing the shutter button, the hawk took off. I thought I had missed the shot completely . . . but I didn’t.
