Black Oystercatcher Escapes the Surf!

I have a particular interest in Black Oystercatchers. Not only for their beauty, but from a conservation perspective, as they are increasingly impacted by coastal disturbance during nesting season. Living near the coast in central California, I have access to these birds on a regular basis. On this particular day there was a high surf and I enjoyed watching this bird as it foraged along the intertidal zone. To me, this particular image captured the energy and personality of this amazing species.
