In January 2019 I took a trip to the southern California desert, specifically the Coachella Valley area, to visit a friend and also do some birding to add some new species to my life list. I visited many wonderful nature preserves and saw a variety of birds. One of my target birds was the Greater Roadrunner. I think they are such fascinating and amusing birds. I saw numerous individuals during my trip, but not until I encountered the bird pictured did I have some good photo ops. This particular bird was a ham and gave me some great poses. Many of the Roadrunners are habituated to humans due to the close proximity of housing developments to the desert. It is not unusual to see a Roadrunner walking down the street or visiting your yard.
