The Winter of 2018/19 was an incredible year for Barred Owl sightings in the Northeast USA. Having frequently seen several individuals on our own road and neighborhood, I started carrying my camera in my car at all times. My wife and I were coming back from grocery shopping and passing an area full of warehouses and tobacco fields when my eye caught what I thought was an owl, sitting on top of an abandoned tractor in a big field in front of the Amazon warehouse. I quickly turned around, safely parked my car nearby, grabbed my camera and got surprisingly (but respectfully) close while photographing this unbelievable sighting.
The owl was totally unfazed and looked to be well fed even though my initial thought was an ill or starving bird. It was an odd sighting as there wasn't a single tree within 100 yards of this tractor. Despite looking, every time I drove by this tractor, I never saw it or another, there again.
