Parakeet Auklets, in my opinion, are one of the most interesting birds on the planet. They have these short orange beaks, a black body, blue feet, and a stunning white tear drop shaped feathers that extend over the eye. On top of all that, they're pretty difficult to find. That's why I was extremely excited to find this pair at a puffin colony in Alaska. From a boat, we slowly crept closer as the birds were preening on a rock. Behind them was a dark crevice and I knew I could expose for the birds feathers, while having everything else get lost in the darkness. Luckily they sat still for a few seconds and I was able to capture the exact shot I wanted, which in turn highlights all of their unique characteristics.
