AOU honors Contributing Editor Kenn Kaufman

Kenn KaufmanIt was announced this afternoon that the premier ornithological society in North America has bestowed one of its highest honors upon one of this magazine’s best friends.

Contributing Editor Kenn Kaufman — naturalist, artist, conservationist, speaker, and author of many books, including the Kaufman Field Guide series and the beloved memoir Kingbird Highway — has been elected a Fellow of the American Ornithologists’ Union.

“ID Tips,” Kenn’s column on bird identification, appears in every issue of BirdWatching magazine.

According to the bylaws of the American Ornithologists’ Union, Fellows are chosen for exceptional and sustained contributions to ornithology and/or service to the Union.

Naturalist, bird bander, and author Scott Weidensaul was elected an Elective Member. Please join me in congratulating, and thanking, both. — Chuck Hagner, Editor
