If you’re looking to attract woodpeckers, chickadees, wrens, and other insect-eating birds, then you can’t go wrong by adding a suet feeder to your yard. Suet comes from beef fat and can be fed to birds safely. Raw suet will become rancid in warm weather and should only be offered in winter, but rendered suet is safe to feed and is available commercially in cakes, cylinders, balls, nuggets, and plugs. Rendered suet is often blended with ingredients that include protein, such as nuts and peanuts.
Here are three suet feeders we recommend.
Double Suet Wild Bird Feeder with Hanging Metal Roof
The Double Suet Wild Bird Feeder is simple to install and easy to use. Pop open the doors and insert the suet cakes, fruit, or nesting objects for your feathered friends, and you’re all set. It is also easy to clean and weather resistant.
Suet Feeder With Tail Prop
Made from recycled plastic, this environmentally friendly suet feeder will not fade, crack, chip, peel or warp. It comes in natural colors to better attract a variety of birds, and the tail prop will help larger birds balance while feeding.
Stokes Select Squirrel-X Squirrel Proof Caged Bird Feeder
Keep squirrels from raiding your suet with this caged feeder. Small birds can easily slip inside this cage to eat. The four-port design and ability to hold two suet cakes allows multiple birds to feed at the same time.
