Four books on birds and birding

Birds of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, by Jeffrey V. Wells and Allison Childs Wells, illustrations by Robert Dean, Cornell University Press, 2017, paperback, 474 pages.

This guide breaks the mold. After an introduction to its three featured islands in the southwestern Caribbean, it features a nearly 70-page site guide in which the authors describe great places to bird on each island. After that is an identification section for more than 280 species arranged in classic field-guide format — ID tips, seasonality, current status, and color plates featuring the work of illustrator Robert Dean. The book concludes with a detailed report on bird-conservation issues on the three islands.
