A Red-billed Tropicbird soars at Swan Cay, also known as Bird Island, off the northwestern coast of Panama. A tropicbird colony occurs on the island, which is part of the Bocas del Toro archipelago in the Caribbean.

Red-billed has breeding colonies in the Galapagos, off the Pacific coast of Mexico, in the Caribbean, on islands in the southern Atlantic, and on the coasts of Yemen, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

Joyce DeHaan, of Ririe, Idaho, took the photo in early January. She and her husband frequently visit Panama.
